Direct answer
30-day rolling is the DORA-default change failure rate reporting cadenceDORA Four Keys2024. It smooths single-deploy noise while staying fresh enough for monthly board cycles. Use it as your default unless you ship under ~5 deploys per week.

Why 30 days

The DORA survey collects responses on a roughly quarterly cadence and asks teams to describe typical 30-day performance windows DORA 20242024. Reporting on the same window you benchmark against eliminates one comparison-bias source.

Exec-review thresholds

A common pattern: red-flag CFR > 22% (rough 78th percentile of the 2025 DORA cohort, equivalent to the old DORA "Low" band DORA 2023 Report2023), watch-list 15-22%, green < 15%. The mint elite band (< 2%) is realistic only for a small share of teams.
